Earth Week - Green Commute Options to ORD and MDW
CHICAGO, April 24, 2014 - The Chicago Department of Aviation (CDA) continues its celebration of Earth Week with tips on how to travel green to and from Chicago's airports.

Green Commute
Green Commute
The CDA is encouraging its employees and contractors to explore greener, more environmentally friendly modes of transportation for their commute. A green commute includes walking, biking, riding a bus or train, carpooling/vanpooling, or driving an electric, hybrid or alternatively fueled vehicle. Reduce traffic and stress, reduce your carbon footprint, and save money. Why not start during Earth Week: April 21-25, 2014?

Public Transit
Public Transit
The City of Chicago public transportation system provides many options to choose from to help plan a green commute. Visit the O'Hare and Midway "Getting To & From" pages on the CDA's website at www.flychicago.com for a list of public transportation options available to and from each airport. To view a Green Commute flier that provides the options and websites to help plan your route for O'Hare click here, for Midway click here.
Public Transit
Hop on a bus or a train from the city or the suburbs. The Chicago Transit Authority (CTA) offers both train and bus service to O'Hare and Midway Airports. The CTA Orange line runs to Midway and the CTA Blue line runs to O'Hare
Public Transit
CTA also offers nine bus routes that serve Midway. Pace offers two suburban bus routes to O'Hare and seven routes to Midway's Transportation Center. Metra's North Central Service line connects downtown Chicago to O'Hare and to the north central suburbs.

Public TransitRidesharing or Biking

Ask around the office and catch a ride with a friend or neighbor to get to work. Pace also offers a Vanpool Program that can transport 5-13 people to work in a Pace Van (pacebus.com/sub/vanpool/). Now that the weather is warmer, consider biking (Check out the Divvy Bicycle locations around the City) or walking to work.

Did you know?

Chicago has more than 200 miles of on-street protected bike lanes and more than 13,000 bike racks. Why not ride your bike to the nearest CTA Blue Line station, secure your bike and take the train to O'Hare or board at the Airport Transit System (ATS) in Remote Parking Lot E? Bike racks are provided at the north and south ends of the ATS Terminal. You can also ride your bike to the nearest CTA Orange Line station, secure your bike, and take the train to Midway or bike directly to Midway's CTA Orange line station where bike racks are provided.
